נעצרו שני חשודים בהשחתת הגן הלאומי עבדת

משטרת דימונה עצרה שני תושבי הפזורה הבדואית, בני 41 ו-57, בחשד שהשחיתו הלילה את הגן הלאומי עבדת.

השניים הכחישו בחקירתם את המיוחס להם. המשטרה תבקש מחר מבית המשפט להאריך את מעצרם.

אלמונים השחיתו לפנות בוקר (יום ב') את העיר הנבטית העתיקה עבדת שבהר הנגב, מזרחית לכביש מס' 40. מנהלי האתר גילו בבוקר כי מאות פריטים ארכיאולוגיים נופצו, קירות נצבעו בצבע צהוב וחום וצוירו ציורי שמן על הגת העתיקה. נגרם נזק כבד לערכי מורשת בני מאות ואלפי שנים. ב-2005 הכריז אונסק"ו (ארגון החינוך, המדע והתרבות של האו"ם) כי עבדת היא אתר מורשת עולמית תרבותי.

נוסף על ההשחתה החמורה בגן הלאומי נגרמו נזקים לחוות "שפת מדבר" באזור מצפה רמון. כוחות גדולים של משטרת דימונה הגיעו למקום ופתחו בחקירה.

יצוין כי מינהל מקרקעי ישראל הרס אתמול 23 מבנים של בדואים באזור. המשטרה חוקרת בכל הכיוונים האפשריים, ובכלל זה גם ייחקרו קשר בין האירועים.

מריחות צבע חום והרס מזבח

מנכ"ל רשות הטבע והגנים, אלי אמיתי, אמר ל-ynet: "הלילה קיבל אתר מורשת לאומי ועולמי מכה קשה. הרשות, כמי שהופקדו לשמור על נכס היסטורי זה, תפעל באופן מיידי לשיקום ושימור האתר והחזרתו לקדמותו - כמתבקש מהסטנדרטים הבינלאומיים".

אלפי מטיילים ומבקרים נוהגים להגיע למקום בחול המומעד, ואולם כעת לא יוכלו ליהנות מהיופי והעתיקות שבמקום.

"הלילה קיבל אתר מורשת לאומי ועולמי מכה קשה" ונדליזם בגן

הנבטים ייסדו את עבדת במאה ה-3 לפני ספירת הנוצרים. היישוב נמצא על "דרך הבשמים" שהובילה מפטרה שבירדן לעיר עזה. המקום נקרא על שמו של מלך הנבטים, עבדת, שקבור במקום ואף חידש ושיפץ את היישוב העיר כשאלכסנדר ינאי, המלך החשמונאי, כבש את עזה ב-100 לפנה"ס.

"שתי הכנסיות העתיקות בארץ - נהרסו"

בשיחה עם ynet אמר רביב שפירא, מנהל מחוז דרום ברשות הטבע והגנים, שהמראה מחריד. "באנו בבוקר, ומצאנו עיר הרוסה", תיאר שפירא. "שברו מדרגות, הרסו קירות, צבעו קירות בצבע. הכי חמור הוא ששתי הכנסיות העתיקות ביותר בארץ נהרסו, וניפצו את עמודים בגובה 4 מטרים עם פטישים, וקירות של 3 מטר, וגם עתיקות ובמיוחד את מזבח השיש האותנטי והמקורי בלב הכנסייה, שהוא החשוב בעיר.

"הממצאים אותנטיים ומקוריים כמו מזבח, כתובות שיש, עמודים, הגת העתיקה, ספי הכניסה. לכל דבר יש ערך שלא יסולא בפז - וכעת הכל הרוס".

"מצאנו עיר הרוסה"

לדברי שפירא, עבדת היא העיר ההיסטורית הכי חשובה על דרך הבשמים, אחרי פטרה מהמאה ה-1 לפנה"ס ועד המאה ה-7 לספירה, ובה התגוררו, הנבטים, הרומים וביזנטיים.

ערן רז, בעל החווה, סיפר כי שבילי גפן יין נרמסו ושברו לו את מערכת החיבור למים. "דרסו את כלבת שמירה שלי והרסו את החלקה שלי, צריך לטפל במי שעשה את זה".

יש לציין כי בעל החווה אינו יכול להתגורר בחוות הבודדים, ולכן אינו יכול לשמור על השטח שלו. "כבר שמונה שנים אני מנסה לקבל אישורים, אבל מינהל מקרקעי ישראל מטרטר אותי", אמר רז ל-ynet.

Hundreds of ancient artifacts are smashed; walls smeared with paint in ancient Nabataean city. 'A World Heritage Site received a grave blow' says chairman of Parks Authority

Anonymous vandals desecrated early Monday morning the southern ancient Nabataean city of Avdat nestled in the Negev hills, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005.

The site's management arrived on the scene on Monday morning to discover that hundreds of archeological artifacts smashed, walls smeared with yellow and brown paint, and oil paintings drawn on the ancient wine press. Items of hundreds and thousands of years old were severely damaged.

In addition to the desecration of the National Park, "Sfat Midbar" farm near Mitzpe Ramon was also damaged. Dimona Police forces arrived at the scene and opened an investigation, saying it will look into all possible directions, including the recent destruction of 23 Bedouin structures nearby, and will examine a possible connection between the two incidents.

"Tonight, a World Heritage Site received a grave blow. The Authority, which is charged with protecting this historic asset, will act immediately to restore the site to its previous condition as is required by international standards," Chairman of the Israeli Nature and National Parks Protection Authority Eli Amitay told Ynet.

Raviv Shapira, director of the southern district of the Israel Nature and Parks Authority told Ynet that the sight of the destruction was awful: "We came in the morning and found the place in shambles," described Shapira, "They broke the staircase, destroyed the walls, and painted on them. The worst is that the two most ancient churches in Israel were destroyed, and 13-foot columns were shattered with hammers along with artifacts and the authentic marble alter, which is the most important (artefact) in the city."

The Nabataeans founded Avdat around the 3rd century BC, along the "Perfume Road" which stretched between the Jordanian city of Petra and Gaza. The place was named after the Nabataean king, Avdat, who was also buried at the site. According to Shapira, Avdat was the most important historic city on the "Perfume Road" after Petra between the 1st century BC and the 7th century AD, and was inhabited by Nabataeans, Romans and Byzantines.

Additional damage was discovered by the Nature and Parks Authority staff, including damage to orchards, water pipes and visitors' vehicles. The Nature and Parks Authority is set to increase the number of supervisors patrolling its sites during the intermediary days of the Sukkot holiday, and will also deploy aircraft which will allow aerial supervision of visitors' activities.

Thousands of visitors come to the site during the intermediary days of the Fall holiday, however this year they will not be able to enjoy the beauty and antiquities of the place.

Israel Nature and Parks Authority has reopened the World Heritage Site, Avdat, for visitors.
