Israel shelves hospital plan under ultra-Orthodox pressure
A wounded Israeli man is taken into the hospital in the southern Israeli town of AshkelonThe decision to alter the plans for the hospital in Ashkelon, south of Tel Aviv, was passed by the narrowest of margins in a cabinet vote with 11 for and 10 against, government sources said.Archaeologists had said there were no ancient Jewish graves at the site.
But Deputy Health Minister Yakov Litzman, whose ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism party has five seats in the 120-member Knesset, had threatened to quit the
coalition government unless the plans were amended.Health ministry director general Eitan Hai-Am resigned in protest at the move, which press reports said had increased the cost of the project by about 18 million euros (24 million dollars).
Ashkelon mayor Benny Vaknin strongly denounced the decision, which he said would delay for several years the new wing of the city's Barzilai hospital in the city, which is within range of Palestinian rocket fire from the Gaza Strip.

Israel should quit putting up with the antics of their ultra-Orthodox.
They are exempt from military service and receive a salary/stipend from their government and periodically try to close down restaurants that serve non-Kosher food. (McDonalds, pizza places, etc.)
Add hospitals to the list!
